NAFB Launches Campaign to Fight Rural Hunger
Food insecurity impacts 47 million Americans, with rural communities facing a disproportionate burden. In response, the National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) has launched the NAFB Hunger campaign, aiming to provide one million meals through donations to the Feeding America network of food banks.
NAFB broadcast members are using PSAs and outreach to drive donors to , where contributions support local food banks based on zip code. Each dollar raised equals 10 meals.
President Jeff Nalley says the campaign is about more than raising funds—it’s about telling the stories of rural hunger and highlighting how farmers and broadcasters are working to help. “While hunger affects every part of the country, rural America experiences significantly higher rates,” Nalley says.
In 2023, 15.4% of rural households experienced food insecurity, up from 14.7% the year prior. Nine of the ten U.S. counties with the highest food insecurity are rural.
Linda Nageotte, president and COO of Feeding America, says, “Â鶹apps are essential partners in ensuring families get the nutritious food they need. We’re grateful to NAFB for shining a spotlight on this urgent issue.”
